Kendrick Lamar is officially back.

After teasing new music on Instagram, Kendrick Lamar has surprised fans with the sudden release of “The Heart Part 4.” The reflective, propulsive track is, as advertised, the fourth installment in the rapper’s “Heart” series, which began with “The Heart Part 1” in 2010, and continued with “The Heart Part 2” later that year on the mixtape (O)verly (D)edicated.

Lamar would return to the series with “The Heart Part 3” in 2012, which featured fellow TDE members Ab-Soul and Jay Rock, and was released for free online.

The latest track has Lamar going solo this time, however, over a stuttering soul sample and a sonic makeup that stylistically progresses from his last project, 2016’s Untitled Unmastered It is unclear whether the song will appear on Lamar’s upcoming album, although it does explain the “IV” logo that was teased on Instagram.
