Charlie Hall, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Son: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Charlie Hall and his dad, Brad Hall. (Instagram/Charlie Hall)

Sophomore Charlie Hall isn’t just another Northwestern basketball player enjoying his school’s first trip to the NCAA March Madness tournament. He’s also the son of comedy icon Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The university in Evanston, Illinois, has never been to the tournament before. They’ve earned a No. 8 seed and beat Vanderbilt in their first game, a 68-66 thriller. Hall didn’t get in the game.

Northwestern’s magical season came to an end on March 18 when they lost to Gonzaga 79-73. Hall also didn’t play in that game.

The 19-year-old Hall is very active on social media. You can follow him on Instagram at @Charlie_Hall and on Twitter at @Charlie_Hall23.

Hall’s mother and father, Brad Hall, are both Northwestern graduates. He has an older brother named Henry. Hall is expecting to graduate in 2019.

Here’s a look at his life and career.

1. Hall Was a Walk-On After Playing Basketball in High School

Hall played high school basketball at Crossroads High School, a private school in Santa Monica, California. In October 2015, Northwestern announced that Hall was joining the team as a walk-on.

According to his MaxPreps.com stats page, he’s listed at 6’5″ and also played volleyball.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Louis-Dreyfus joined that her son get his height from her, but it likely came from his father. Brad Hall, who also appeared on Saturday Night Live and earned an Emmy nomination for Brooklyn Bridge, is 6’3″ “when I stand up straight,” he said.

2. He’s Had an Interest in Basketball ‘As Soon as I Was Born’

In a Chicago Tribune profile, Hall said that his father Brad coached him from the moment he began showing interest in basketball.

He started coaching his son “once I showed an interest in basketball, basically as soon as I was born,” Hall told the Tribune. “He’s a trouper. He has had to deal with a lot in terms of me as a basketball player. I’m a very sore loser. Any efforts to console me would not go over well.”

Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall both graduated from Northwestern and his father dreamed of playing on the football team. “A lot of us thought, ‘I can make the team.’ I had played on frat teams and was actually kind of fast back then. As soon as I saw how big the actual players were, that fantasy died,” he told the Tribune.

3. He Still Hasn’t Scored a Single Point in Two Seasons

Hall still hasn’t scored a single point in two seasons. He’s appeared in just 14 games, most recently in the March 9 game against Rutgers. The Wildcats won that game in a blowout victory, 83-61.

As The Tribune reported, there was a chance for Hall to finally score, but his teammate Nate Taphorn decided to go for a three-pointer himself instead of passing the ball to Hall.

After the game, Hall showed off some of the comedy talents he’s inherited in an interview with Taphorn. Taphorn agreed to apologize “because it’s the right thing to do.”

His parents were at that game, and Hall told the Tribune that he could actually hear his mom scream.

“It’s so fun. They have come to my games since elementary school. To have them still come even when I’m not playing is really great,” Hall said. “And I can always hear my mom, which is really fun. She’s loud and she gets nervous and she yells.”

4. Hall Says He Helps His Teammates at Practice & Loves His Role on the Team

Although Hall doesn’t get to much action during games, he still has a role that he loves, he told USA Today. He said that he helps out players like Vic Law and Bryant McIntosh brush up on their skills.

” I’m a scout team guy as well,” he explained to USA Today. “Even though most people don’t, I get to see how my role pays off. I’ll see Vic Law or I’ll see B-Mac (Bryant McIntosh) do a one-dribble pull-up. I’ll say, ‘Hey, you did that on me yesterday. We were working on that,’ which is really fun. Off the court, though, it’s a really long season. It’s grueling. It is really fun and rewarding, but it is tough.”

He also thinks that “keeping people’s spirits up and making sure everyone’s excited to play and excited to practice is important” and he likes to focus on boosting off-court chemistry that “helps with on-court chemistry.”

5. He’s Never Done the ‘Elaine Dance’

After the Wildcats made it to the NCAA tournament, Louis-Dreyfus famously tweeted the above GIF, showing her “Elaine Dance” from the Seinfeld episode “The Little Kicks.” In his USA Today interview, Hall said he’s never done the dance.

“I’ve never done the ‘Elaine Dance,’” Hall said. “My teammates haven’t asked me to do it, thankfully, because I don’t know if I would or if I even could. I’ve never done that dance. I like to dance. I cannot say I can do that exact dance or copy that in any way. Maybe I’ll try one day.”

As The Chicago Tribune notes, some students have asked him to do the dance.

“Basketball is a serious sport, but being a guy who can alleviate some pressure is something I like to do,” he told the Tribune.

Despite his hearing difficulties, Berry insisted on not retiring. “That shall never be as far as I am able to see a little, hear a little and do but a little. I want to perform. It’s in my genes,” he told the Dispatch in 2012.

4. Ingrid & Charles Appeared on Their Father’s Last Album

In October 2016, Berry celebrated his 90th birthday by stunning the world with an announcement that he was making his first album since 1979. According to Rolling Stone, Charles Jr. and Ingrid both appeared on the record, playing guitar and harmonica, respectively

“What an honor to be part of this new music,” Charles Jr. said in a statement. “The St. Louis band, or as dad called us ‘the Blueberry Hill Band,’ fell right into the groove and followed his lead. These songs cover the spectrum from hard driving rockers to soulful thought provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”

The album, titled Chuck, was scheduled for release in 2017.

In a 2014 interview with the Riverfront Times about a series of performances Berry gave, Ingrid recalled how her father began telling a story while his guitar was being restrung. She explained:

He was playing at Blueberry Hill and broke a string. As the guitar was being restrung, he took out this roll of tissue from his pocket. Nothing was written on the tissue, but he started unrolling it like a scroll and pretending to read from it. He told this beautiful story about a poor man in the South who was writing to his relative up North who’d gone to seek work and send money home. Dad is doing this off the top of his head, mind you, and I’m onstage looking on in utter amazement. I don’t know what you’d call this type of inventive and poetic storytelling, but I refer to it as the “rags to riches letter.”

“We had no time to react. We found out he wasn’t coming one hour before the concert, and just because we called them up. Otherwise, we’d still be waiting,” a spokesman for Br Music, the organizer of the show, told the Telegraph at the time.

Kim Kardashian’s Paris Jewelry: How Much Money Was Stolen?

In October 2016, Kim Kardashian-West was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, bound and had her mouth taped shut. In the above photo, Kardashian rocks a $4 million ring from husband Kanye West, who gifted her the piece of jewelry. Unfortunately, this was one of the jewelry items stolen from Kardashian during the robbery. The Mirror reports that a jewelry box of Kardashian’s was taken and another stolen item was a necklace with her son Saint’s name written in diamonds. In her statement to police after the robbery, Kardashian said that:

My Vuitton jewelry box was near my bag and, at that time, he said something to the other individual, shouting. In my jewelry box, there were two bracelets by Cartier, all with diamonds, a necklace by Jacob all in gold and diamond, diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz, and the others were by Yanina.

Kardashian also stated:

I also had just a cross-shaped diamond, by Jacob. A watch by Rolex all in yellow gold. There were two rings in yellow gold. I think they robbed me for $5 million. They didn’t rob my cash. They took my iPhone 6 … and the Blackberry.

Instagram Photo

So, how much is Kim Kardashian-West actually worth? According to Celebrity Net Worth, Kardashian’s last reported net worth was $150 million and her husband Kanye West is worth $145 million. In addition, Kardashian’s yearly salary for Keeping Up With the Kardashians is an estimated $50 million. Another major source of income for the star is her app, which in 2014, CNN reported made an estimated $700,000 per day. Kim Kardashian started bringing in a ton of money from social media in 2009 as Business Insider previously stated that she was making approximately $10,000 per tweet on her Twitter account, having companies pay her to tweet.

Kardashian and her family members also bring in a ton of money for their Instagram posts. Michael Heller, the CEO of digital marketing firm Talent Resources, tells Us Weekly that brands pay up to $500,000 for a social media ad campaign to Kardashian’s 94.8 million Instagram followers. Advertised products include weight-loss teas, clothing and other items. On the other hand, Heller said:

They only endorse what aligns with their lifestyle. They turn a lot down.

Unfortunately, posting some of her jewelry and other material items may have given thieves too much information about her possessions.

Instagram Photo

In addition to taking a hit of an estimated $10 million in jewelry from the Paris robbery, Kardashian has had a lot of expenses. She’s had to beef up security, which definitely costs money. And, at the end of 2016, she and Kanye West reportedly dished out $10 million in renovations for their home in Hidden Hills, California, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Previously, Kanye West was in the media for posting tweets, saying that he was actually in debt. West tweeted:

I write this to you my brothers while still 53 million dollars in personal debt … Please pray we overcome… This is my true heart … My dreams brought me into debt and I’m close to seeing the light of day.

On talk shows later on, Kardashian family members like Kris Jenner implied that this was not accurate and that West gets overly passionate at times.

Though Kanye West has expensive taste and enjoys spending money, his wife Kardashian has a lot of expenses of her own as well. For example, Business Insider reports that Kardashian actually spends $100,000 on a professional selfie re-toucher for her social media posts.

Darren Criss as Music Meister: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

(Photo: Dean Buscher/The CW)

The March 20 episode of Supergirl introduces us to Music Meister, a villain who uses the power of music for bad instead of good. “Star-Crossed” features former Glee actor and singer Darren Criss in the part, which has never appeared in the live-action medium before.

“Star-Crossed” is the first half of a two-part crossover episode with The Flash. It ends with Kara/Supergirl getting hurt by the Music Meister. Her friends take her to Barry Allen/The Flash’s universe to get some much-needed help. On the March 21 episode of The Flash, titled “Duet,” Barry (Grant Gustin) and Kara (Melissa Benoist) get stuck in a musical world created by the Music Meister. We’ll have to tune in to see how our heroes get out of this mess.

Here’s what you need to know about the Music Meister and the actor who plays him.

1. Music Meister Has Only Previously Been Used in Cartoons

The Music Meister villain has never appeared in the comic books. He first debuted in the 2002 Justice League episode “Legends” as a villain a group of comic book heroes fought in an alternate world.

He later showed up in Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008-2011), appearing in the 2009 episode “Mayhem of the Music Meister!” and voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. He later appeared in the 2011 episode “Mitefall!”

Although the Music Meister episode of Brave and the Bold remains popular, the character has surprisingly not been used in the comics. He did appear in the video game Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, but that’s it.

The character does have comic book roots though. He was likely inspired by Fiddler a Golden Age Flash villain who played a violin to control people’s minds.

2. Criss Calls His Character ‘Kind of a Stinker,’ Unlike a ‘Typical Villain’

Music Meister actor, Music Meister Darren Criss, Supergirl spoilers

(Photo: Jack Rowand/The CW)

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 30-year-old Criss described his character as “kind of a stinker” who isn’t your “typical villain.” It sounds like he’s similar to Mr. Mxyzptlk.

“Come on, he makes people sing and dance. How mean could he be?” Criss told ET. “He’s just kind of a troublemaker. I’ll leave it at that. They’ve let me kind of do a lot of silly things on set, so considering how much they’ve allowed me to run with this, I have a feeling he won’t seem as villainous.”

Criss, who played Blaine Anderson on Glee, <a href=”http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2023050/?ref_=nv_sr_1″ target=”_blank”has stayed busy since that series ended back in 2015. He had a brief role in season five of American Horror Story. In 2012, he appeared in Gil Most Likely with Kristen Wiig and voices Sideswipe in Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

3. ‘Flash’ Actor Carlos Valdes & Criss Went to College Together & Acted in a Musical

Carlos Valdes, who plays Vibe/Cisco Ramon on The Flash, went to college with Criss at the University of Michigan, Valdes revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The two even performed in a musical together called Me And My Dick.

In “Duet,” Valdes plays a busboy named Pablo at the imaginary club the Music Meister sends Barry and Kara to. It’s a musical wold inspired by Kara’s favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz.

When Entertainment Weekly asked Valdes to describe what it was like to prepare for “Duet,” he explained:

I was expecting there to be a bit more of a learning curve than there actually was. I was expecting us to have to scramble at the last minute to figure out how to make this happen. But honestly, it’s been a lot more fluid than I expected and I attribute that, honestly, to a good team. I mean, we’ve got [choreographer] Zach Woodlee from Glee, so he’s such a pro at this. He’s already got it mapped out. He already knows how to set it on the actors and it looks beautiful. So, I’m excited to see how it looks in the end, but as far as the process is concerned, it’s super.

Valdes said it was “such a blast” to work with Criss again.

“It’s weird because I’m seeing worlds mesh before my eyes, like, worlds that are very separate,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s my Flash life, these people that I’ve been working with for the last two to three years, and then there’s Darren, whom I used to goof off with in college and write musicals about genitalia.”

4. ‘Duet’ Is Also a Big ‘Glee’ Family Reunion

Music Meister actor, Music Meister Darren Criss, Supergirl spoilers

(Photo: Dean Buscher/The CW)

“Duet” is also one big happy Glee reunion, since both Gustin and Benoist were on the hit Fox show, too. Gustin played Sebastian Smythe in seven episodes between season three and season five. Benoist played Marley Rose in almost 40 episodes between 2012 and 2014. Criss also told Entertainment Tonight that Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee also worked on “Duet.”

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly that, because of the Glee connection between their two stars, they have always thought about doing a musical crossover. At first, they were joking about it, but eventually began taking the idea seriously.

“We’ve always talked about doing it, from the very beginning, more in a joking way,” Kreisberg told the magazine. Gustin, however, was initially curious. “I didn’t ever think it would be a real thing, so when they told me it was real, I was like, ‘How?!‘”

Gustin and Benoist are just the tip of the musical theater iceberg that lives in the Supergirl/Flash family. Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, John Barrowman, Jeremy Jordan and Valdes all contribute to “Duet,” even though their usual characters aren’t in the imaginary world with Kara and Barry.

The episode also features original music. “Runnin’ Home To You” was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the same team behind the songs from La La Land. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom co-wrote “Super Friend,” which Gustin told Entertainment Weekly is “a goofy song and it’s very consistent with that style of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”

Gustin and Benoist said that once filming started, they just returned to their old musical selves. “It’s funny how things stay in your muscle memory. It was fun to pick it back up again and see your body and be like, ‘Oh, we remember how to do this,’” she told Entertainment Weekly.
